Good Afternoon,
I hope this Friday Update finds you well. It has been awhile since my last call so I wanted to take a moment to provide you with some news about a few upcoming events.
First though, I want to commend the MSAD 44 staff for their many efforts as we have navigated the challenge of seeing a significantly increased number of positive COVID cases over the past week. Although we have seen an uptick in student cases, this particular variant seems to hit adults particularly hard and many of our staff have been impacted. I appreciate the work that the administrators and secretaries have done in covering these absences and the teaching and support staff who have stepped up to help provide the coverage that has been needed for us to be able to continue with in-person learning rather than moving to remote instruction. We are hopeful that the worst is behind us since many other districts who have already experienced this saw that it seemed to dissipate after a week or so. We hope that proves to be the case here as well.
We will be moving forward with the public budget meeting to seek initial approval of the general fund and adult education budgets. That will take place in the Helen C. Berry auditorium at Telstar next Wednesday evening beginning at 6:30. You should have received a mailing sometime in the past week that provided an overview of the items that will be considered that evening. The School Board joins me in asking for your support for this year’s budgets.
If you were planning to attend that the Candidate’s Night for prospective school board members, previously scheduled for next Tuesday, please note that the evening has been postponed to later in the spring. A new date will be announced soon.
Graduation events for the Class of 2022 will be taking place during the week of June 6.Please be sure to check the Telstar website or Facebook page for a schedule of events. Congratulations to our graduates.
Finally, I also wanted to remind you that we are continuing to accept registrations for Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten students for the 2022-2023 school year. Please contact the school offices to register your child and help us spread the word if you know any families in the district who may have children who will be ready to enroll.
As we move into the final weeks of the school year, I would like to again thank you for the continued support you have provided for our school district.
Best wishes for a terrific weekend!
Sincerely,
Dave Murphy, Ed.D., MSAD 44 Superintendent of Schools
